When you think "Provence wines", one word immediately springs to mind: rosé. Fresh, fruity, a symbol of summer, it's an obvious choice. But what if we broadened the palette a little? Behind this sunny image lies an unsuspected diversity, supported by estates that are shaking up conventional wisdom. That's what we're doing at Château Barbanau. To reveal another facet of Provence, through white and red Provence wines with delicate, elegant notes... and always produced using organic and biodynamic viticulture, a deep reflection of our DNA.
Provence rosé, of course... but not only
Yes, rosé is part of Provence's DNA. This emblematic style, recognized the world over for its freshness, lightness and conviviality, has established itself as a signature of the region. At our estate, our AOC de Provence wines l'Instant rosé and Et Cae Terra roséare designed to reveal the subtle balance between tension, finesse and depth. The result? Chiseled, delicate and expressive rosés, capable of accompanying much more than summer aperitifs. But rosé is only one facet of our expertise.
As Romain Tchénio, owner of Château Barbanau, explains: "We all want Provence to shine through in all its richness. This requires constant high standards, constant questioning, and a deep respect for the terroir. While rosé remains a strong symbol of Provence, it's important to emphasize that there are other options available to lovers of Provence wines: wines for ageing, for gastronomy, for reflection."
This desire to create an ambitious, high-quality, sensitive Provence is at the heart of every cuvée produced. It is widely shared by the region's winegrowers, and is today increasingly appreciated by wine lovers in search of meaning, authenticity and character.
Provence AOC white wines that combine elegance, freshness and finesse
Although little known to the general public, Côtes de Provence AOC white wines boast a mineral freshness and unsuspected complexity that rival those of France's great white wine regions.
At Château Barbanau, the main grape varieties used are Rolle (also known as Vermentino), Clairette and Ugni Blanc. These native varieties thrive on the estate's limestone soils.
Our AOC Provence white wines are carefully vinified: slow pressing, ageing on fine lees, controlled fermentation, some in barrels. The result? Wines bursting with freshness, carried by aromas of white fruit, white flowers and citrus, sometimes enhanced by lightly smoky or aniseed notes.
They are the perfect accompaniment to seafood, goat's cheese, grilled vegetables... and will appeal to wine lovers in search of authentic, easy-to-digest, elegant white wines.

AOC Provence red wines of character that reveal a different Provence
If red wines from Provence are still struggling to find their place on wine-lovers' tables, it's often due to a lack of knowledge. Yet the region, with its Mediterranean grape varieties (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre...), has everything it takes to produce red wines of character, combining power and finesse.
At Château Barbanau, our AOC Côtes de Provence reds are crafted with the same exacting standards as our whites and rosés. Manual harvesting, long maceration, gentle punching of the cap... everything is designed to extract the quintessence of the fruit, without ever forcing it.
These wines offer a beautiful aromatic palette: ripe black fruits, sweet spices, garrigue... But it's above all their freshness and tension that surprise. This is a far cry from the warm, heady reds sometimes associated with the South: here, the tannins melt away, the balance is remarkable, and the finishes are long and vibrant. Some of Château Barbanau's reds also have impressive ageing potential, and deserve to be decanted or kept for a few years to reveal their full complexity.

Although Provence's whites and reds haven't yet achieved the same renown as Provence's rosés, they are an integral part of the region's winegrowing identity. At Château Barbanau, our white and red wines, though more discreet than our rosés, are no less essential. They reveal the deep soul of the estate, revealing facets that are less visible but just as captivating. This soul, so subtly revealed by Château Barbanau's rosés, reds and whites, is rooted in an exceptional terroir.
An exceptional Provencal terroir, ideal for organic, committed and respectful viticulture
Set on a hillside, Château Barbanau benefits from an exceptional terroir between sea and mountains, cradled by sea breezes and the Mistral wind. Here, the altitude, cool nights and diversity of soils - clay-limestone, scree, pure limestone - give the grapes a unique expression, far removed from standardized norms.
Behind the quality of the domaine's wines lies meticulous work in the vineyard, respecting nature and the living world. Out of a deep-seated conviction, the domaine committed itself to organic farming long before it became a commercial argument. The estate is one of the pioneers of organic farming in Provence, with certification obtained in 2008. A new milestone was reached in 2018, with the first vintage to be certified biodynamic by Biodyvin. The idea is not to "do organic for organic's sake", but to produce healthy, ripe, balanced grapes. This artisanal approach is evident at every stage, from winter pruning to bottling.
Vineyard management at Château Barbanau is as non-interventionist as possible, with no standardized approach. Ploughing is designed to let the soil breathe and encourage biodiversity. Inputs are limited to what is strictly necessary to preserve the grapes' natural balance, and are of plant origin out of conviction (vegan certification). At Château Barbanau, wines are made with exacting precision, respecting the natural cycles of the earth and the moon, in accordance with the principles of biodynamic viticulture.
